Mr. Nirosh De Silva

Mr. Nirosh M De Silva Nirosh has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Business Administration from Franklin & Marshall College USA and has completed his Charted Financial Analyst (CFA).
Nirosh is an entrepreneur who runs, Symphony Capital Ltd, an investment company in Colombo and is Managing Partner of Horizon Partners Ltd, an advisory firm that specializes in corporate finance and change management consultancy work in Sri Lanka. Prior to commencing his business Nirosh worked in banking and investment banking specializing in capital raising, syndicated infrastructure finance and merges & acquisitions.
Nirosh commenced his career in 1993, at Vanik Incorporation Ltd, one of Sri Lanka’s first Investment Banks. He joined Hatton National Bank in 1997 and set up its first investment banking unit that undertook loan syndications, IPOs and M&A related services etc. In 2000 Nirosh joined Ayojana, a JV between the National Development Bank and the Commonwealth Development Corporation of UK where he was extensively trained in the area of Private Equity and where he engaged in managing and evaluating investments.
In 2003 Nirosh branched out into setting up his own business in consulting and in 2004 set up a business in Investment management in partnership. During his entire career Nirosh has played an active role in the capital markets in Sri Lanka.
Apart from his work Nirosh is an active member of the community volunteering time to support the government on policy related matters and supporting The Ceylon School for the Deaf & Blind as an active Board Member.
MR. MOHAMED HUSSAIN MANIKU
Chief Executive Officer, Maldives Pension Administration Office
Mr. Mohamed Hussain Maniku has been the Chief Executive Officer of Maldives Pension Administration Office since its inception in 2009. The assets under custody as at Dec 2017 are 650 Million USD. He began his career at Department of Finance, presently the Ministry of Finance and Treasury and held number of senior management posts. He gained vast exposure in corporate business settings in many functional areas before assuming the post of Managing Director of State Trading Organization (STO) in 1993. He has held directorships in number of companies during his tenure with STO. He was instrumental in transforming the company from an import and distribution company to a holding company engaged in international trading. In February 2008, he was appointed as Maldivian Ambassador to United States of America. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from American University of Beirut, Lebanon.
MS. AMINATH IVAN
Manager, Treasury Bonds & T-Bills, Public Debt Management Division, Maldives Monetary Authority
Ms. Aminath Ivan has been serving MMA since September 2006. Currently serving as the Manager of Treasury Bonds &T-Bills section, she is responsible for the overall supervision of the Agency work related to the issuance and management of Government Securities and the development of Government Securities Market. She has provided assistance and technical advice to the Government in reforming the interest rate structure of both short and long term Government Securities. She has also played a key role in the issuance of short term Islamic Government Securities. Moreover, she assisted in the introduction of one of the Monetary Policy Instruments, namely, Reverse Repurchase under Open Market Operations. She is proficient in her knowledge of Government Securities Market in the Maldives and holds a BBA Hons (Finance) from Open University Malaysia.
MR. ADAM SALEEM
Director, Crown Company and Tree Top Investments
As a Director of both Crown Company and Tree Top Investments, Adam oversees both companies investment portfolio within Tourism, Finance and Healthcare. Prior to moving back to the Maldives, Adam held various accounting and managerial roles within the Professional Services, Hospitality, Transportation, Telecommunications and Information Technology industries in New Zealand, United Kingdom and Kenya.
Adam is a qualified Chartered Accountant with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. In addition to this qualification, Adam holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology in New Zealand and a Masters of Business Administration from Cranfield School of Management in the United Kingdom.
DR AISHATH MUNEEZA
Associate Professor, INCEIF, The Global University of Islamic Finance
Associate Professor Dr Aishath Muneeza of INCEIF is one of the key founder of Islamic finance in Maldives. She is the first female Deputy Minister of Ministry of Islamic Affairs and the first chairperson of the Hajj Pilgrimage Fund of Maldives. Currently, she is the chairperson of Maldives Centre for Islamic Finance. She has published books and numerous articles on Islamic Finance and her research areas include legal studies & corporate governance applicable to Islamic Finance. She structured the first corporate sukuk, sovereign private sukuk and Islamic Treasury instruments for the government of Maldives and she has played the key role in offering of Islamic finance products by more than eleven institutions. She also designed the first Islamic microfinance scheme offered in Maldives. She sits in Shariah advisory committees of financial institutions offering Islamic financial services such as Islamic hire purchase and takaful. She also holds the position of chairperson of three different in-house Shariah committees. She is the chairperson of Shariah Advisory Council of CMDA, the capital market regulatory authority of Maldives since 2011. She is the only registered Shariah Adviser for structuring capital market instruments in Maldives and she is a registered Shariah Advisor at the Securities Commission of Malaysia. The Islamic capital Market framework of Maldives was designed by her. She has won numerous national and international awards for her service in Islamic finance industry including the Rehendhi award, the highest award conferred to women by the government of Maldives. She is also a role model and a mentor for females who aspire to build their careers in Islamic finance industry and is the Vice President of Women on Boards, an NGO advocating women representation on boards of companies. She is an invited speaker in Islamic finance conferences and events held in different parts of the world. She is listed in 2017 as number seven among the 50 Influential Women in Business and Finance by ISFIRE which is an official publication of Islamic Bankers Association based in London and she is among the most influential 500 in Islamic Economy. She is a member of the Association of Shariah Advisors in Islamic Finance Malaysia (ASAS), Malaysia.
MR. MAKHZOOM SALEEM
Director General of Legal and Regulation Department, Capital Market Development Authority
Mr. Makhzoom Saleem is Director General of Legal and Regulation Department at the Capital Market Development Authority, Maldives. CMDA is the statutory body formed under the Maldives Securities Act (02/2006) to develop and regulate capital market in Maldives.
Mr. Saleem has held key positions at CMDA related to development, regulation and supervision of market’s institutional functions such as securities trading, depository, brokerage services, and also has vast exposure in areas of public offers, corporate governance and disclosures. Mr. Saleem holds an LLB, BA and MSc in Accounting and Finance, and has over 10 years of experience in the field of market development and regulation.
MR. NANDANA SENEVIRATHNE
Chief Financial Officer, Bank of Maldives
Mr. Nandana Senevirathne is the Chief Financial Officer of Bank of Maldives since January 2014.
He has over 19 years of experience in the financial services sector in banks, leasing, insurance companies and audit firms. He has worked in Sri Lanka and the Middle East before joining Bank of Maldives. He has also worked for KPMG Maldives.
Nandana holds a BSc. in Accountancy and Financial Management from University of Sri Jayawardenapura, Sri Lanka. He is an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Sri Lanka.
MR. AHMED SHAAM
Associate General Manager, Financial Controlling and Risk Management, Maldives Airports Company Limited
Mr. Ahmed Shaam is the Associate General Manager – Financial Controlling and Risk Management, at the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL). He is responsible for maintaining control on the financial requirements and its relative risks as well as balancing the cashflow shortages through short/long-term financing arrangements during the massive development projects currently undertaken by MACL.
Prior to his assignment at MACL, he served as the Head of Finance and Accounting at the then newly formed Maldives Hajj Corporation Limited. Where he was involved in the company’s first investments under Mudharaba and Wakala Agreements.
